Reflection of Mineral- Atelier Tekuto
Progressive architecture- in this case it might be better to say futuristic architecture- harmonizing with its surroundings, a tough task to accomplish for this home in Tokyo surrounded by more conventional Japanese architecture. The geometry is rigid, but it does not come off as rigid or oppressive perhaps in part because of the different windows, which vary in size in transparency, and the small plaza created on the ground floor, which seem to embrace the neighbourhood. The interior continues to play with geometry and transparency, the kitchen counter and top floor bathroom especially caught my eye. One aspect that I did not find overly appealing was the colour and material of the stairs. It seems to clash with the unity of hardwood and concrete, creating a small bit of chaos in the otherwise tranquil house. It could be part of the experimenting that the architect describes and maybe a bigger meaning is supposed to be taken from it. Very intriguing home.
